Really cool stuff. Thanks a bunch for posting this.
The birth of sprint cars!
I was at that 1965 race. It was a Sunday race and my father wouldn't run his car on Sundays. Russ Moynah was his normal driver but he drove another car that day. Russ was badly burned. I was just a youngster, but remember this day like it was yesterday.
Do you have the 3 Wheeler Races from 1986 Tulsa Shootout? A buddy and I raced the Pro Classes but do not have any pictures or video unfortunately
Some without any roll bar whatsoever--- such insanity-😖🤪😯
Buzz. Cripe doty car 18 is complete gambler. #. 454 chassis. Minnesota Coors. Bullet. 1984
Check out this comment from a racer back then about Sedalia 😳
I drove the last modified race at ascot 1968 than started sprint cars I was 18 now 75 it was a lot of fun as long as you survive
Good ole days of racing
A.J. Foyt - Best Ever‼️🇺🇸🏁
salt city racing is alive and well in 2024....
Shane carson lives right up my street, I talk to him every single day, he’s awesome
Where's Part one?
When I was 10 I got to meet him at the kon tiki motel in Phoenix my dad knew those guy’s Bubby jones John singer Roger Rager. He actually took the time to just talk to me I immediately knew from that time on what I wanted to do sometimes I still do you see I became a hardcore sprint car guy been blessed built a bunch of them raced some too. It’s all his fault and Bubbys. Thanks guy’s what an adventure.
Went to the Tulsa Speedway every Saturday night during the season. Hahn and Crawford dueling every Saturday. Then, off to kartville!
Interesting seeing AJ and Parnelli in roadsters racing for the lead in 1964 and then AJ and Johncock racing for the win in 1977 in all American (chassis and engine) cars. Both events were the ends of eras.
My Grandfather used to race midgets in the N.Y. , New England area. Indoor and outdoor too. For many years, mostly the 40s and 50s. I never met him. His name was Wild Bill Holmes . If anyone knows anything about him please let me know. He is buried in Danbury, Ct. Iwas told he was very good and won a lot of races and championships. Thanks.
Wolfgang's my driver opp is my. Hero! ❤Jesus is Lord !!!!!!!!!¡!¡!!
sprint cars may look stupid or dumb, but unless you see it in person you'll never understand. Even if you've been to 1000 nascar races or indy 500s.
Although these are American images we had our own super modifieds stars here in Sydney Australia...I grew up in Lalor Park in Western Sydney and during the 60's we had a terrific speedway called Westmead speedway where Westmead hospital stands today...they raced Sunday afternoon and once racing was over the drivers would build a fire and have a few beers reminiscing about the days events and times gone by.The men I remember were guys like Donny Fortune,Clive Sevenoaks, Dick Britton,Bill Warner,Bill Booth,Charlie Lack,Peter Dikerson,Jim Winterbottom,Alan Felcsh,Stan and Steve Brazier,Bobby Tunks and of course my dear old dad Stan Phillips RIP..and a very young Garry Rush...they would drink a few beers then always be home and ready for work on Monday morning to support their families, what great and wonderful times they were...P.Phillips 18n

Visit Perris Auto Speedway America's premier Clay oval !😊
No face masks on football helmets, no cage on the cars. My buddy Rapid Ralph Tresser raced these, mid to late '60s. He was showing me the yearbooks from each season, and so many died. Pictures of people flying through the air like Superman. He was rookie of the year in points, but they gave it to 2nd place guy because he died that season. Incredible!!
Good race..enjoyed it !!
The demolition derbies were fkn dope
I basically lived under the bleachers
My Day always took me to ascot he fkn loved that shit
ah the days of the giants, the steve the king kinser larry rice and mr eldora jack hewit, and one of the one of the benteenhousens, and with the champ cars that still had the round top nose, not quite as pretty as watson roadsters, but still had that traditional dirt car/ roadster shape, though some very unique ones in this era, compaired to the ones that mostly look like sprint cars, but still look like an old champ car from the side if you look at it just right, narrow nose, long line and vaned rear fuel tank, when I was at the vogler classic in 23 while at winchester indiana I asked retired racer tom bigalow, who helps out and works there, on how much differance the flat nose vs round makes I belive he said it adds about 10 lbs of downforce when it was windtunnel tested, not huge but every little bit helps but these sure are a site to watch, its differant then sprint cars a little slower but on the longer races requires a bit more strategy on the 100 mile races, and they are more rear heavy of course carrying all that fuel so its a differant challenge to do in a silvercrown roadster like this
Watched Bubby plenty of nights and wound up working for him at Falcon Environmental in Wilmington....awesome guy to work for and party with...loved the guy.
My thoughts about two guys: Lloyd Ruby & Mario Andretti. They both could've had more than 1 victory at indy had their engines held out because they ran hard every race they drove.
Awesome footage
this is amazing seeing Dan Gurney sliding into a dirt car. Its about the only thing he didn't race.
Thank you for posting!
"Now! I want you to go out and hit the pace car"
Would have been better with no music. just hear roar of enginees.
The music junked another video 👎👎👎👎👎💩💩💩😬
Here's something interesting to think about in this type of auto racing: a 2.5 mile oval dirt track...the straights being 3/4 mile length with the width being 65 feet...the turns being 1/2 mile at 70 feet width and banked at 11 degrees. The "pits" would be 3/8 mile length. Yes...there would be housed garaged areas, too. This kind of "dream track" would do up to three races - April, July and October. Too back U.S.A.C. (United States Auto Club) isn't around any more... They were a tight veteran bunch of guys who seemed to not give much in rules. The speeds on these same type of "Sprint cars" on straights would be maybe 170 or so...and the turns at 150 m.p.h. Would that track style do good? Would 50 to 100 laps be enough to not tire out the drivers? Just some thoughts from a fan of the caliber of drivers from long ago.
McElreath Jr would die later in the year 😕😕. It’s really sad to see his mom and dad in this video
Supers,,lets go back to em way more fun than the way to expensive cookie cutter sprints and modifieds we have now. You had to actually use your brain and build something and make it work!!
my grandfather helped establish the Thunderbird Speedway which is now Muskogee Speedway
Kenny weld In this one???RIP91..94❤
New Bremen would probably still be there if they had NOT paved it, it was 100X better dirt track than it ever was A paved track.
Beautiful Dick Wallen Video with the Best of the Best Driver’s❣️🏁👏
When I was a kid my mother took us to Oklahoma state fair ground speedway . Our driver in the early 70s was Danny Daniels number 66. He drove stock car and a sprint car. Anyone hear of him
Danny Danials #66 ring any bells
Look at all those old glory flags proud to be a american!
God Dam it the Bastards torn down the Syracuse mile!
Love this era of the supers, never caught on in the east.
I say...Bring these cars back!!!
I live by El Centro, the dirt track is in Imperial, California part of the fairgrounds CRA sprints raced there many years. My Father and I saw many races and they raced local stock cars and I WON a kart race there on a dirt track inside the track.Great thank you, for posting the video.
I have won a few motorcycle races on the DuQuoin mile. Love that place 🙂
